The village of Kalkan is situated on the SW of
the Mediterranean and nestles at the foot of the Toros Mountains resulting
in scenery of the most spectacular kind.
Once
occupied by the Greek Ottomans you will find that Kalkan is full of character.
With its hot
summer days and turquoise blue sea it epitimises everything that a
traditional fishing village could possibly be with the added extra of a
certain ambience and magical charm.
The village itself is a small maze of cobbled streets winding their way
down to the Marina where small fishing boats bob gently side by side
with luxurious yachts. Traditional Turkish/Greek houses with their carved
wooden balconies draped with Bougainvillea help create a picture
postcard place whilst the mix of city Turks that have settled in
Kalkan amidst the locals create a most unique atmoshphere.
By
day Kalkan has a most lazy feel. The ever welcoming Kalkan people always
have time for a chat be they shop keepers sipping Çay, taxi and dolmuş
drivers, restauranteurs or even the local school children.
For
the holiday maker it is all about relaxing by the pool or heading of to
one of the many sights and activities that the area has to offer
and of course enjoying the beautiful waters of Kalkan bay. Opportunities
for enjoying the crystal clear waters abound from one of the beach clubs Mahal, Ibo's
or
Yali where you will find Blue Marlin Watersports in operation to the pebble town beach.
For the more active a whole whealth of watersports are on offer. Blue
Marlin Watersports with their head office in the Marina is a watersports
heaven with waterskiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, dinghy sailing,
banana and ringo rides, speed boat trips and boat hire all on offer.
By
night Kalkan comes into her own and transforms into a hub-bub of relaxing
sophistication. A choice of of many restaurants with superb dining are a
major attraction and a great pleasure. Lots of welcoming restaurants are
waiting to serve you a wonderful range of Turkish and international
cuisine. Later in the evening a stroll through the cobbled streets
leading down to the marina to browse in the array of shops or to stop
off and have
one (or two!) drinks in one of the bars is a delightful way to end the day.
